Frank Young, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Young joined the Board of Directors in 2003. Dr. Young has an extensive background in microbiology, immunology, regulatory and defense related affairs. He served as Commissioner of the FDA under Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush, as a Rear Admiral in the U.S. Public Health Service, as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Health and as a senior advisor to DARPA. Dr. Young also served as Chairman of the Department of Microbiology and Professor of Microbiology, Pathology, Radiation Biology and Biophysics at University of Rochester, New York. Subsequently he became Dean of the School of Medicine and Dentistry, Director of the Medical Center and Vice President for Health Affairs at the University of Rochester. Dr. Young has published over 200 papers in the field of biotechnology, and he is a member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences. He received his M.D. from the University of the State of New York and his Ph.D. from Case Western Reserve University.
