Waun
Ki Hong, M.D.
Waun Ki Hong, M.D., is head of the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Division
of Cancer Medicine. Dr. Hong has held various positions at M.D. Anderson
throughout the past 17 years, including chief of head, neck and thoracic
medical oncology; professor of medicine; the Charles A. LeMaistre Distinguished
Chair in Thoracic Oncology and chairman of thoracic/head and neck medical
oncology. Prior to his tenure at M.D. Anderson, Dr. Hong was chief of
medical oncology at Boston Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Dr. Hong is
president of the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) for 2001-2002.
In 2000, he was named the winner of the American Society of Clinical Oncology's
(ASCO) David A. Karnofsky award, the AACR Joseph H. Burchenal award, and
the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center Health Memorial award. In addition, Dr.
Hong sits on the subspecialty board of medical oncology for the American
Board of Internal Medicine, the board of scientific advisors for the National
Cancer Institute, and on the scientific advisory board for the Kimmel
Foundation on Cancer Research.
